On San Luis Rey off El Paseo in Palm Desert is Desert Art Collection and Sculpture Garden, a gem of a place for art and garden lovers. If you've never been there you might be surprised to hear they've been around since 1996. They're celebrating their 15th anniversary this year.

The structure was built in the early 50's, when architect Herbert W. Burns designed the mid-century modern building. It was originally an apartment/hotel called the Sun & Shadow owned by the Talbot family. Newspapers at the time called the hotel "swank."

It's still swank, a very cool and peaceful place to visit. A couple years ago the Center added the Lotus Garden Center on the site so it's a destination for not only fine art and sculptures, but home and garden items.

Artists represented in the galleries include Dan Rider, Virgil Villers, Aida Schneider, and Michael Battaglia.

Inside the Lotus Garden Center, shoppers can find beautiful and unique gifts and home accessories. Shoppers can spend a fortune or as little as $3 for vintage matches.
